Compass inclusion advice

Submitting Reports and photographs for Compass Magazine

The Editor of Compass Magazine welcome items for possible inclusion. In order to increase the likelihood of publication both copy and photographs need to comply with the following guidelines:

1. Articles and Reports

These should be either typed on plain paper or submitted electronically by Email;

Standard or double-spacing is acceptable;

Please do NOT USE CAPITAL LETTERS EXCLUSIVELY!

Reports should be concise and factual;

Ensure that names are correctly spelt;

2. Photographs

Time spent setting up and planning the composition of the photo usually results in a better result;

The background should either be plain or relevant to the subject;

Ensure that tops of heads etc are not cut off;

Use a good quality camera;

Use a good quality film or best quality electronic image;

If indoors, generally the brighter the lighting the more likely a good result;

Groups should not be more than 6 people, ideally 3 or 4. The size of reproduced image means that people in large groups will not be readily identifiable;

Let's have happy photos, Smile please!

Where a donation is to be made, a photo including the item of equipment is of more interest than a cheque presentation;

Ensure that people included in the picture are agreeable to appear in Compass Magazine and / or on the Provincial Website;

Please do not electronically alter the image or send a desktop printed copy. The best quality image should be sent;

If you have several shots please send a selection;

If a professional photographer or other commercial source is used, please obtain and provide consent to publish so that credit can be given.
