Lodge Uno Corde No. 5736 was consecrated on 24th
June 1938, at Freemason’s Hall, Great Queen Street, London WC2.
Lodge meetings were initially held at the Leicester
Corner Restaurant in Leicester Square, London but “Enemy Action”
destroyed that venue, in April 1941. The Lodge then moved to Freemason’s
Hall where it prospered and the 50th Anniversary meeting in
1988 was well attended. By the year 2000 however, numbers had fallen
and a brief recovery following the admission of some keen young members
was reversed when three of them went to work abroad. The Past Masters
kept it going for a while but in 2002 decided to hand in the Warrant.
A senior member of the Lodge had moved to Somerset, and
made contact with a group of Brethren in Keynsham who were hoping to
form a Saturday daylight Lodge. Meetings were arranged and agreement
reached that Lodge Uno Corde be moved to Keynsham
The Lodge was formally welcomed into Somerset on 1st
March 2003 by the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro David Jenkins, and the
Provincial Team (Note was made that this was appropriately St David’s
day).
The Lodge meets on Saturday mornings, and whilst the
Brethren meet upstairs their Ladies are entertained by a speaker
downstairs. The Brethren and their Ladies then lunch together and many
friendships have developed over the past few years from this happy
arrangement.
