National and International Support
All of the money distributed by The Freemasons' Grand Charity
is provided by Freemasons and their families, mainly through an annual
contribution made by individual Masons through their Lodges, fundraising
'Festivals' held each year in one of the Provinces within England and Wales,
gifts, donations and legacies. Whilst much of this supports elderly and needy
members and their families, we also support a wide range of non-Masonic causes.
Grants to non-Masonic national charities are made to organisations working in
five areas - medical research, vulnerable people, youth opportunities, hospices
and emergency grants for disaster relief.
Last year The Grand Charity gave £3.00m to a wide range of non-masonic
national charities and hospices. See the Grand Charity Website for details of
the recipients.
Emergency Grants of over £237,000 have promptly been made after several
recent disasters including: African and Asian Flood Appeals, Cyclone Sidr,
Bangladesh, Darfur, Sudan, UK floods appeal and the Warwickshire Fire Service
Tragedy.
In a new initiative the Freemasons' Grand Charity has given grants to 19 Air
Ambulance Services throughout England and Wales.
Grants are also made to religious buildings and include a recent grant to Wells
Cathedral.
The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys continues to support the Lifelites
Scheme which provides IT and internet access for Children's' Hospices.
