Connaught Lodge takes its name from His Royal Highness Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, the seventh child of Queen Victoria. At the time of the formation of Connaught Lodge he was Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England

The Provincial Grand Master of Somerset, RW.Bro.Colonel W. Long, consecrated the Lodge on 11th April 1912. In order to ensure that the Lodge was properly furnished for the occasion the furniture was "borrowed" from the Bath Lodges, some of which is still in use today!

Midsomer Norton, as it has done since its consecration in 1912. The Hall was purpose built for Connaught Lodge. The first positive step towards the new Masonic Hall was the purchase of a plot of land described as "near the church" at a cost of £3 per perch. Plans for the building were drawn up by Bro. Orchard at half the usual fee and a tender for building, in the sum of £721-17s-7d, was accepted from local builders F. James & Son. The heating and electrical installations were in addition to this bringing the total to £914. This amount was raised partly by issue of bonds to the Brethren and partly by a bank loan.
