Sir Thomas de Cheddre Lodge No. 9188 was formed in 1986, the twenty-one Founders being predominantly residents of the Cheddar valley. Since then, membership of the Lodge has virtually doubled in number, attracting members in the main from North Somerset villages and from a wide cross section of trades and professions.

The Lodge takes its name from the family name of Sir Thomas de Cheddre, this being the spelling of the name of Cheddar village as late as 1700. The tombs of Sir Thomas and his wife Isabel can be found in the chancel of St. Andrew’s Church, Cheddar, of which he and other members of the family where benefactors. The photograph of the Lodge banner contained on this page incorporates the de Cheddre Coat of Arms together with the landmark of Cheddar’s old Market Cross.

Sir Thomas de Cheddre Lodge is well known in local Masonic circles for its friendly atmosphere and it’s various social activities held throughout the year. Brethren and their partners enjoy not only the fellowship of others members but also their guests. Our activities are self-funded and always include fund raising for various Masonic and non-Masonic charities.
