The St. Cecilia Lodge No. 9341 was Consecrated on Saturday 21st October 1989 at the Masonic Hall, Wedmore by the Late Rt. W. Bro. Kenneth Casswell Kinnersley, Provincial Grand Master for Somerset, together with members of the Provincial Team.

The idea of forming a Lodge of brethren having an interest in music, but not necessarily themselves musicians or singers, came from a small nucleus of mainly Bath Masons, some of whom were members of Bath Abbey Choir. One of the aims of the Lodge was to promote a high standard of music in lodges within the Province of Somerset.

A Steering Committee was formed and the first meeting took place in the home of Denis Calderley in July 1988. The Steering Committee Secretary being Paul Perry and the Treasurer Designate, Steven Jones. At this meeting, Maxwell Harkcom was nominated Master Designate.

Originally, the Lodge was constituted a ‘Travelling Lodge’ – taking its music to other Lodges in the Province by invitation. In more recent years, with a number of the older members finding travelling difficult, it was decided to hold all four meetings at Wedmore. However, the Lodge still regularly supplies singers for major Provincial Team Meetings such as Lodge Consecrations, Bible, Banner and Organ Dedications.

The Lodge meets four times a year in October (Installation), November, February and March, with Lodges of Rehearsal on each of the Mondays prior to the meeting. We attempt to preserve a fairly disciplined practice of ‘Emulation Ritual’ but which allows a great deal of musical input. We welcome enquiries from prospective Candidates for Initiation and Joining Membership. There is no requirement of musical qualification or indeed any practical experience – only a general interest in music.
