Our charitable aims & achievements
Each Lodge within the Province has an Almoner. This important
office provides the watchful eye and listening ear for those Masons and their
immediate family should they be sick, frail or in distress and to find ways to
support them where possible. The Provincial Almoner lends his experience and
knowledge to these officers as well as guidance in maintaining good links with
all Somerset Masons and their families ensuring continuity of care and support
where needed.
Sensitivity, intelligence and a good knowledge of who's who are
just part of being an Almoner. Knowing how to help
when required is another cornerstone and the Provincial Almoner is the officer
who makes applications on behalf of those in need to the appropriate Masonic
charities and trusts when called upon to do so.

Almoner's Report
Charity is at the heart of Freemasonry The three Great
Principles by which we stand are Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Freemasons
are taught to practise charity and to care, not only for their own, but also for
the community as a whole, both by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts
and works as individuals.
From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans,
the sick and the aged. This work continues today. In addition, large sums are
given to national and local charities. Masonic charity is exercised at every
level, individual Lodges make gifts and give aid to their own communities and
every Province provides support to local causes. Nationally, our efforts are
channelled through four main charity organisations which are:
The
Grand Charity
The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys
The
Royal Masonic Benevolent institution
Masonic Samaritan Fund
