Vivary Lodge receive the Trowel on a very special night

The initiation of a ‘Lewis’ is always a special occasion but when Ian Rudge was initiated into Vivary Lodge at their January meeting, it was historic. Ian became the first ‘Lewis’ to join his father’s lodge since the lodge was consecrated in 1975. Ian's father and Lodge Secretary John Rudge was invited to take the chair for the ceremony by the WM, William Allen. PGM Stuart Hadler also honoured the lodge by attending at both the ceremony and festive board.

When proposing the toast to the initiate, John eloquently summed up the significance of the evening in saying “we arrived as father and son but we will leave as brothers.”

The evening also had another ‘first’ when Cameron Swales, WM of Alfred and Guthram Lodge No. 4535, accompanied by a delegation of his Officers and Brethren, delivered the ‘Travelling Trowel’ to the safe keeping of Vivary Lodge.

W Bro Cameron commented that visiting is an essential part of Freemasonry and how the Trowel will assist in promoting this activity. He also congratulated the Candidate and said how much all from the visiting lodge had enjoyed the ceremony.
